Regulator FAQS

What is a gas regulator and why is it important? A gas regulator controls and reduces the pressure of gas flowing from a storage vessel or pipeline to a burner or appliance. Without a regulator dangerously high pressures could damage equipment or cause safety hazards. Eyona Gas Equipment supplies Fisher and Marshall-Excelsior regulators for industrial and commercial applications across South Africa.

What is the difference between a first stage and second stage gas regulator? A first stage regulator reduces high storage pressure to an intermediate pressure while a second stage regulator further reduces this to the final operating pressure required by the appliance or burner. Many industrial installations use a two stage regulation system for greater accuracy and safety. Eyona Gas Equipment can design the correct regulation system for your application.

Can I use the same regulator for LPG and natural gas? No. LPG and natural gas operate at different pressures and require different regulators. Using the wrong regulator can be extremely dangerous. Always ensure your regulator is correctly specified for the type of gas in your installation. Eyona Gas Equipment can advise on the correct regulator for your gas type and application.

What is the difference between a high pressure and low pressure gas regulator? A high pressure regulator is used close to the gas source such as a cylinder or bulk tank to reduce the very high storage pressure to a safer intermediate level. A low pressure regulator is used closer to the appliance to further reduce pressure to the correct operating level. Many installations require both. Eyona Gas Equipment can advise on the correct regulation setup for your needs.

Do restaurants and commercial kitchens need a special gas regulator? Yes. Commercial kitchens have high gas demand from multiple appliances running simultaneously and require correctly sized commercial regulators that can maintain consistent pressure under heavy load. An undersized regulator can cause appliances to underperform or cut out. Eyona Gas Equipment supplies commercial regulators for restaurants, hotels, hospitals and catering operations across South Africa.
