Synthetic Natural Gas (SNG) FAQS
What is SNG ? LPG-Air or SNG, is essentially synthetic natural gas that is formed by mixing vaporized propane or LPG with air. Once mixed it forms a homogeneous mixture that can be used as a direct replacement for natural gas in combustion applications.
Why SNG ? Companies in most industries require a back-up system for their primary energy source when there is a risk of energy interruption or when there is a significant economic benefit.
Why do we need SNG in South Africa Propane-Air standby systems allow natural gas users the ability to have live back-up when ever required. Because propane air is a “synthetic natural gas” (SNG), it can be used as a direct substitute for natural gas. Unlike diesel, fuel oil or propane, SNG does not require additional gas trains, piping, regulators, or special fuel delivery systems inside the factory. The propane air mixture is simply connected to the natural gas piping just after the metering station (and pressure reducing station) but before entering the building(s). These systems can be placed in live back-up so that they take over upon falling pressure, or they can be turned on manually. In either the case it is akin to having an electrical generator.
What is the Blendaire II LPG-air mixer? The Blendaire II is a precision LPG-air mixing unit manufactured by Algas-SDI that produces a consistent synthetic natural gas mixture. It automatically maintains the correct LPG to air ratio regardless of demand fluctuations, ensuring safe and efficient operation. Eyona Gas Equipment is a supplier of Blendaire II units in South Africa.
What is a Synthetic Natural Gas (SNG) system and how does it work? A Synthetic Natural Gas system, also known as an SNG system or LPG-air system, mixes LPG with air in precise proportions to create a gas that behaves like natural gas. This means it can be used as a direct replacement for natural gas in burners, boilers and industrial equipment without any modifications. Eyona Gas Equipment supplies Blendaire and Vapoaire SNG systems across South Africa.
What is the Vapoaire SNG mixer and who uses it? The Vapoaire is a combined vapouriser and air mixer unit that both vapourises liquid LPG and blends it with air to produce SNG in a single compact unit. It is ideal for medium to large industrial applications where space is limited. Eyona Gas Equipment supplies Vapoaire units to industrial clients across South Africa.
