MC-3 and ATC-3 Series

102–204 kg/min (133 to 380 LPM)

The MC-3 Series is Smith's most widely used large capacity pump — delivering 204kg/min (380 LPM) at 1800 RPM. It is the standard specification for high-volume bulk CO2 loading and offloading, large industrial refrigeration loops, and terminal transfer operations. The MC-3H is developed specifically for 50 Hz countries — delivering identical flow to the MC-3 at 1800 RPM when operated at 1500 RPM, making it the correct specification for South African installations.

The ATC-3 Series is identical to the MC-3 but includes an extra port on the inlet cover to eliminate extra elbows in the pipework. Flanges come standard in threaded, butt-weld, or socket-weld versions. One outlet may be used with a blind flange on the unused outlet port — shipped with the pump.

MC-4 Series

153–307 kg/min (284 to 568 LPM)

The MC-4 Series is Smith's high-volume large capacity pump — delivering 307 Kg/min (568 LPM) at 1800 RPM. Developed for applications requiring higher flow rates than the MC-3 can achieve, the MC-4 is specified for large CO2 terminal loading, high-volume industrial refrigeration systems, and major beverage or food processing facilities with continuous high-flow demand.

The MC-4H delivers identical flow to the MC-4 at 1800 RPM when operated at 1500 RPM — the correct specification for 50 Hz South African installations. The inlet is through the cover to eliminate elbows. F-type variants include flanges in threaded or welded versions. Important: the MC-4 is NOT reversible — counterclockwise rotation only. The unused top port is plugged with a 2-½" plug.

MC-5 Series

204–511 kg/min (379 to 946 LPM)

The MC-5 is the highest capacity pump in the Smith range — delivering 410 Kg/min (757 LPM) at 1800 RPM as standard, with a 'Large' gear option increasing capacity to 511 Kg/min (946 LPM). The MC-5 is specified for CO2 import and export terminals, major industrial refrigeration infrastructure, and the largest beverage and food processing facilities requiring continuous high-volume liquid CO2 transfer.

The MC-5H is designed for 50 Hz countries, delivering identical flow to the MC-5 at 1800 RPM when operated at 1500 RPM — the correct specification for South African large industrial installations. Like the MC-4, the MC-5 is NOT reversible. The inlet is through the cover to eliminate elbows. F-type variants include threaded or welded flanges

How to select the right large capacity Smith pump

Step 1 — Determine your required flow rate

Select the series based on your peak transfer rate: MC-3 / ATC-3 for 50 to 205 Kg/min, MC-4 for 75 to 307 kg/min, MC-5 for 204 – 409 Kg/min (or up to 511 kg/min with large gear option). Higher flow means less transfer time — but is limited by your tank liquid outlet size and inlet line size. Provide Eyona with your flow requirement and tank outlet size.

Step 2 — Specify 50 Hz or 60 Hz

For South African installations on 50 Hz electrical supply — always specify the H-series: MC-3H, MC-3HF, MC-4H, MC-4HF, MC-5H, MC-5HF, ATC-3RH, or ATC-3LH. This ensures the pump delivers rated flow at the correct operating speed for your electrical supply frequency.

Step 3 — Flanged or non-flanged

Non-flanged models use NPT threaded connections as standard. F-type models include flanges available in threaded, butt-weld, or socket-weld versions — specify when your installation requires flanged pipework connections

Step 4 — Continuous or intermittent duty

For applications running more than 2 hours continuously — including all terminal, refrigeration, and major industrial applications — specify the NSSA option and reduce operating speed to 750 to 1200 RPM. Intermittent applications (cycle transfer, batch offloading) can run at standard speed without the NSSA option.

Step 5 — Reversibility requirement

MC-3 and ATC-3 series are reversible — a single pump handles both loading and unloading. MC-4 and MC-5 series are NOT reversible — counterclockwise rotation only. If your installation requires reversible operation at high flow rates, specify the MC-3 range or contact Eyona for engineering guidance.
